Francisco de Segovia
Designer and historian. He was born in Valdivia, Chile, into a family of long-standing Spanish ancestry. He studied at the Faculty of Architecture, Design, and Urban Studies and at the Institute of History at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Between 2016 and 2019, alongside his studies, he served as a teaching and workshop assistant at the School of Design, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. During the same period, his independent academic formation was guided by the distinguished historian Gabriel Guarda Geywitz, O.S.B., focusing on the historical study of the cities of Valdivia and Osorno. He later became an academic at the University of Chile and the Diego Portales University. He has conducted research in Chile, Peru, Spain and Brazil. He is a researcher at numerous institutions such as the National Library of Spain, the Archiepiscopal Archive of Lima, and the General Archive of the Indies.
He has specialized in history and theory of Design and in society and culture of Spain during the Ancien Régime (15th – 19th centuries). He is a member of the Chilean Institute of Genealogical Research and has authored several publications in the Revista de Estudios Históricos, the official journal of that institution. He has developed theses on urban history and material culture. Currently, he also explores photography, portraiture, and biography as formats for historical and social studies.
Francisco de Segovia has positioned himself internationally as an expert advisor on research and history topics. He has been Chief Genealogist at Apparcel Uriarte Abogados – AIM GLOBAL (Chile – Portugal). He has also been an advisor and researcher for the Heritage Architecture Consulting Firm “PARES” (Heritage, Architecture, and Restoration – Chile) and the audiovisual production company “Tormento Films”.
